Your first month on the Wegovy pill, week by week

Your first month on the Wegovy pill is spent on the 1.5 mg starter dose. The aim of this first month is to build a daily routine and let your body adjust before the dose rises.

Breakfast table seen from above

In short: In month 1 you take one 1.5 mg Wegovy tablet a day on an empty stomach, with up to 120 ml of water, then wait 30 minutes before food, drink or other medicines. The starter dose prepares your body for higher doses, so early weight loss is often modest. Nausea is the most likely side effect. A check-in before your second pack decides whether you move to 4 mg.

Check dispensing and delivery times with the pharmacy, including tracking, packaging, storage requirements and what happens if delivery is delayed.

  • Read the patient leaflet inside the carton from start to finish.
  • Put the blister pack and a small glass beside your bed. The tablets need no fridge and must stay in the blister.
  • Record your starting weight and waist measurement on the morning of day 1.

The whole month runs on one routine. Take one tablet after a fast of at least 8 hours, with a sip of plain water of up to 120 ml. Then wait at least 30 minutes before food, any other drink or any other oral medicine. The full method is in how to take the Wegovy pill.

Why month 1 uses a low doseThe 1.5 mg tablet is an escalation dose. The trial results for the Wegovy pill come from 25 mg, which you reach in month 4 at the earliest. Month 1 is for adjusting and for building the routine.

Week 1: learning the routine #

The first week is about technique. Semaglutide is hard to absorb from the gut, and only about 1% to 2% of each tablet reaches your blood even when you follow every rule. A coffee with the tablet or breakfast after 10 minutes wastes most of the dose.

Many people feel little in the first days. Some notice mild nausea, burping or a slightly smaller appetite. Semaglutide has a half-life of about one week, so the level in your body is still building. Set a 30 minute timer every morning and keep your meals regular.

Week 2: early appetite changes #

With daily tablets, semaglutide accumulates through week 2. You may feel full sooner at meals or think about food less between meals. Others feel no change yet, which is normal on 1.5 mg.

If nausea appears, eat smaller portions and slow down. Drink water through the day. Constipation can start around now, so add fibre from vegetables, fruit, beans and wholegrains. The eating on GLP-1 treatment guide gives meal ideas.

Week 3: settling in #

By week 3 the routine should feel automatic. Check for slips. Common ones are a late-night snack inside the 8 hour fast, a full glass of water with the tablet and other medicines taken too soon.

Use this week to set eating habits for the higher doses ahead. Put protein on your plate at each meal, using the protein guide for amounts. Add two or three sessions of activity a week, including some strength work. The exercise guide has a starting plan. Keep alcohol low, because alcohol can make nausea worse.

Week 4: the first check-in and your next dose #

Semaglutide in your blood reaches a steady level after 4 to 5 weeks of daily tablets. Week 4 is the fair point to judge how 1.5 mg suits you.

Aero Clinic asks you to complete a check-in before each new pack, so your first check-in falls before the second pack is sent. You report your weight, side effects and how the routine is going. A UK prescriber reviews your answers. If you feel well, the usual next step is 4 mg for month 2. If side effects still bother you, the prescriber can keep you on 1.5 mg for longer. See Wegovy pill doses for every step. Aero’s prices are not yet confirmed.

Side effects in the first month #

Stomach and gut effects are the most likely. In the OASIS 4 trial, across all doses and 64 weeks, 46.6% of people had nausea and 30.9% had vomiting at some point. Most cases were mild to moderate and short, and they clustered in the dose escalation months. Headache, tiredness, constipation and diarrhoea each affect more than 1 in 10 people.

Message the clinical team if a side effect lasts more than a few days. Messaging is unlimited.

Get urgent help for these symptomsStop the tablets and seek urgent medical help for severe stomach or back pain which does not go away, swelling of the face, lips or throat, trouble breathing or sudden loss of sight. The Wegovy pill side effects page lists every warning sign.

If you miss a tablet, skip the missed dose and take your normal dose the next day. Never take two tablets together.

Your first month on the Wegovy pill, week by week: questions #

How much weight will I lose in the first month on the Wegovy pill?

Aero’s treatment prices are not yet confirmed. Before paying, ask for the total price, pack quantity, prescribing fees, dispensing and delivery charges, and follow-up costs. Use your provider’s written quote in the cost planner.

What dose do you take in the first month of the Wegovy pill?

You take 1.5 mg once a day for at least one month. After a check-in, the usual next step is 4 mg in month 2, then 9 mg in month 3 and 25 mg from month 4. Your prescriber can keep you on a strength for longer if you need more time.

Will I feel sick in the first week on the Wegovy pill?

Some people do, and many do not. Nausea was the most common side effect in the OASIS 4 trial, affecting 46.6% of people at some point over 64 weeks. Most cases were mild to moderate and short. Smaller meals and steady fluids help most people.

Can I drink coffee in the morning on the Wegovy pill?

Yes, after the waiting time. Take the tablet with up to 120 ml of plain water, then wait at least 30 minutes before coffee, tea, food or other medicines. Drinking coffee sooner reduces how much semaglutide your stomach absorbs. This applies to black coffee too.

What happens at the first Wegovy pill check-in?

A review should cover progress, side effects and the daily tablet routine. Ask your prescriber what information to provide and how the next dose will be decided. Aero’s review schedule and patient contact arrangements remain unconfirmed.
