Wegovy pill doses: every step from 1.5 mg to 25 mg

The Wegovy pill has four tablet strengths, and you take one tablet a day. You start at 1.5 mg and move up one step at a time, with at least one month on each strength.

In short: The Wegovy pill (oral semaglutide) starts at 1.5 mg once a day. After at least one month you move to 4 mg, then 9 mg, then 25 mg. Each step lasts a minimum of one month, so the earliest you reach 25 mg is month 4. The maintenance dose is 25 mg once a day. You take one tablet a day and never two tablets to make a higher dose.

The four Wegovy pill dose steps in mg #

The UK product information lists four strengths of the Wegovy pill: 1.5 mg, 4 mg, 9 mg and 25 mg. You take one tablet every day. The first three strengths are escalation doses. They let your stomach and gut adjust to semaglutide before you reach the full dose.

The schedule above is the fastest one allowed. Your prescriber can slow the schedule down. Nobody should speed the schedule up.

How long each dose step lasts #

Each step lasts a minimum of one month. The product information gives no maximum, so a step can run longer when you need more time.

One month is the minimum for a reason. Semaglutide has a half-life of about one week, and the level in your blood reaches a steady state after 4 to 5 weeks of daily tablets. By the end of a month you know how your body handles a strength. Moving up sooner means stacking a new dose on top of a level still rising.

In the OASIS 4 trial, which tested the 25 mg dose, dose escalation took 12 weeks. Participants then stayed on 25 mg until week 64.

When to stay on a dose for longer #

The product information says the dose can be kept at the previous level if needed. In practice, your prescriber may hold you on your current strength for another month when:

  • Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea or constipation still bother you most days
  • You are struggling to eat or drink enough
  • You started a new medicine or had an illness in the last few weeks
  • You are losing weight steadily and feel well on the current strength

Stomach and gut side effects were reported most often during dose escalation in the trial. Holding a dose gives those effects time to settle before the next rise. Tell the clinical team how you feel at each monthly check-in so the next pack matches what you can tolerate.

A longer step is still progressStaying on 4 mg or 9 mg for a second month is a normal clinical decision. You are still taking semaglutide every day, and the tablet keeps working while your body adjusts.

The 25 mg maintenance dose #

The maintenance dose is 25 mg once a day. This is also the maximum dose. The 25 mg tablet is the strength tested in OASIS 4, where adults lost an average of 13.6% of body weight over 64 weeks alongside a reduced-calorie diet and more physical activity. You can read the full figures on the Wegovy pill results page.

You stay on 25 mg for as long as you and your prescriber agree treatment should continue. The maintenance doses guide covers long-term planning.

Never take two tabletsThe product information says you should always take only one tablet a day. Two 9 mg tablets do not equal a higher licensed dose, and taking several tablets together reduces how much semaglutide your stomach absorbs.

What to do if a dose step is not tolerated #

Aero’s prices, review arrangements and contact channels will be published before booking opens. Ask for written details of assessment fees, ongoing support, renewal payments and cancellation or refund terms before committing to treatment.

  • Mild nausea or loose stools in the first 2 weeks of a new strength often settle. Keep taking the tablet and drink plenty of fluids.
  • Side effects lasting beyond the first weeks are a reason to ask about staying on the current strength for another month.
  • If a new strength makes you unwell, your prescriber may move you back to the previous strength you tolerated.
  • Severe stomach pain which does not go away needs urgent medical help. Stop the tablets and read the warning signs on the Wegovy pill side effects page.

Do not split, crush or chew a tablet to make a smaller dose. The tablet only works when swallowed whole.

Missed tablets and switching from the injection #

If you miss a tablet, skip the missed dose and take your normal dose the next day. Do not take two tablets to catch up. The missed dose guide explains what to do after a longer gap.

People already on the Wegovy injection at 2.4 mg once a week can move to the 25 mg tablet once a day. The product information says the first tablet can be taken one week after the last injection. A prescriber must approve the change, and the switching treatments guide sets out the steps.

How dose affects your monthly price #

Every price is on the site, so you see the cost of the next strength before you move up. A UK prescriber reviews every order, including each dose increase. You complete a short check-in before each new pack, and you can pause or cancel at any time. See the Wegovy pill plan for how treatment works. Aero’s prices are not yet confirmed.

Wegovy pill doses: every step from 1.5 mg to 25 mg: questions #

What is the starting dose of the Wegovy pill?

The starting dose is 1.5 mg once a day for at least one month. This strength introduces semaglutide to your body gently. The 1.5 mg tablet is an escalation dose, and the dose shown to produce the trial results is 25 mg, which you reach from month 4 at the earliest.

What is the highest dose of the Wegovy pill?

The highest dose is 25 mg once a day, which is also the maintenance dose. An earlier trial called OASIS 1 tested a 50 mg tablet, but the UK product information lists 25 mg as the top strength. You take one 25 mg tablet a day and no more.

Can I skip a dose step to reach 25 mg faster?

No. The product information sets a minimum of one month on each of 1.5 mg, 4 mg and 9 mg before 25 mg. Stomach and gut side effects were most common during dose escalation in the trial, and skipping a step raises the chance of nausea and vomiting.

Can I stay on 9 mg instead of moving to 25 mg?

The product information allows the dose to be kept at the previous level if needed. Your prescriber decides with you. The published weight loss results come from the 25 mg dose, so staying lower may mean less weight loss. Raise this at your monthly check-in.

Can I take two Wegovy tablets to make a bigger dose?

No. You should take only one tablet a day. Taking more than one tablet at the same time reduces how much semaglutide your stomach absorbs, and no dose above 25 mg is licensed. If you think you need a higher dose, speak to your prescriber.
