In short: Wegovy (semaglutide) is a once-weekly injection in doses from 0.25 mg to 7.2 mg. Average weight loss was 14.9% at 68 weeks on 2.4 mg in the STEP 1 trial. Aero’s prices are not yet confirmed.
How Wegovy works
GLP-1 is the hormone your gut releases after eating to tell your brain you are full. Semaglutide mimics GLP-1 and lasts a whole week per injection.
Appetite drops, portions shrink, and the background hum of cravings fades. In the SELECT trial, semaglutide also reduced the risk of major cardiovascular events by 20% in people with existing heart disease.
Prefer not to inject? The Wegovy pill delivers the same medicine as a daily tablet.
Wegovy doses and prices
At 7.2 mg, the prescribed presentation may use one single-dose 7.2 mg pen per week or three consecutive 2.4 mg injections. Confirm the supplied device and pack quantity with your pharmacy. Wegovy UK product information, sections 2 and 4.2.
Everyone starts at 0.25 mg. Steps last at least 4 weeks, and you move up only when you and your prescriber agree.

Wegovy questions
How much does Wegovy cost a month?
Aero’s treatment prices are not yet confirmed. Before paying, ask for the total price, pack quantity, prescribing fees, dispensing and delivery charges, and follow-up costs. Use your provider’s written quote in the cost planner.
How long does one pen last?
A Wegovy FlexTouch pen contains four doses of its labelled strength. Follow the schedule and storage limits for your prescribed presentation. Check the patient leaflet and ask your pharmacist how much medicine each supplied pack covers.
Does Wegovy affect the contraceptive pill?
Semaglutide is not expected to reduce oral contraceptive effectiveness directly. Vomiting or severe diarrhoea can still affect pill absorption, so follow your contraceptive leaflet’s advice. Discuss contraception and pregnancy planning with your prescriber before starting or changing treatment.
What if I stop losing weight on Wegovy?
Discuss a plateau with your prescriber before changing your dose. A review can consider progress, side effects, eating patterns, activity and treatment goals. Our plateau guide helps organise those questions without assuming that a dose increase is needed.
Can I switch from Mounjaro to Wegovy?
A prescriber must assess and plan any switch between these medicines. There is no simple milligram-for-milligram conversion. Read our switching guide, then ask your clinician to confirm the timing, starting dose and follow-up arrangements for you.
Is there a tablet version?
Yes, Wegovy tablets received UK authorisation in June 2026. They contain semaglutide but have different dosing and administration instructions from injections. See the MHRA announcement; authorisation does not confirm Aero’s supply arrangements, prices or your suitability.
