Why maintenance needs a plan #

In STEP 4, participants who switched from semaglutide to placebo after 20 weeks regained the majority of their lost weight over the following year. Those who continued kept losing slowly. The lesson is not "you can never stop". Stopping needs the same structure as starting.

Reviewing your maintenance plan #

Review the prescribed maintenance dose

The UK injection maintenance regimen is described in Wegovy UK product information, sections 2 and 4.2. Reaching a target weight does not automatically make a lower dose appropriate. See licensed maintenance regimens.

Option 2, move to tablets

A change between injected and oral semaglutide requires a prescribing decision. The formulations are not dose-for-dose interchangeable. Discuss suitability, dosing and cost before a switch; see Wegovy tablet product information.

Option 3, a supported stop

If you want or need to stop, agree monitoring and support with your prescriber. Withdrawal trials do not establish a universal taper that prevents regain. See planning a Wegovy treatment change.

The habits which keep your weight steady #

• Protein at every meal, 1.2 to 1.6 g per kg of target weight daily.
• Strength training twice weekly, the engine room of your metabolism.
• Weekly weigh-ins, catch a 2 kg drift early. Never wait for 10 kg.
• Sleep protected, short sleep raises hunger hormones measurably.

How check-ins change #

Agree review dates and what to monitor with your prescriber. Changes in weight, symptoms or health may require a review. Do not automatically increase a dose or restart after a break without advice.
