How to take Foundayo tablets
Foundayo (orforglipron) is one tablet a day with no fasting and no waiting before breakfast. This guide covers timing, other medicines, the contraceptive pill, missed tablets, storage and how the routine differs from the Wegovy pill.
In short: Take one Foundayo tablet a day, at any time, with or without food or water. Swallow the tablet whole and never break, crush or chew. When you miss a tablet, take one when you remember, and never take more than one in a day. Keep tablets in the original blister, away from light. Use extra contraception for 30 days after starting and after each dose increase when you take the contraceptive pill.
Your daily routine: time, food and water #
The UK product information gives a short set of rules. Take one tablet once a day. Any time of day is allowed. Food and drink make no difference, so you can take the tablet with breakfast, after dinner or on an empty stomach.
The label does not ask for the same time every day. A fixed time still helps most people remember. Link the tablet to something you already do daily, such as brushing your teeth.
- One tablet a day. Never two, even when you missed yesterday.
- With any drink, or none. No water volume is set.
- No waiting period before eating, drinking or taking other tablets.
Swallow the tablet whole #
Do not break, crush or chew a Foundayo tablet. The three lowest strengths are round and about 6 mm across. The largest tablets are ovals of about 12 by 6 mm.
Each dose is a single tablet. Never combine lower strengths to reach a higher dose. The order of strengths and the 30-day minimum on each step are set out in the Foundayo doses guide.
Other medicines and known interactions #
Tell the prescriber about every medicine and herbal product you take. Orforglipron is broken down by a liver enzyme called CYP3A4, so medicines affecting this enzyme change how much Foundayo reaches your blood. Foundayo also slows stomach emptying, which alters how some other tablets are absorbed.
| Medicine | What happens | What the label says |
|---|---|---|
| Clarithromycin, itraconazole, ketoconazole | Orforglipron levels rise. Clarithromycin raised exposure 3.5-fold. | Maximum Foundayo dose 9 mg a day |
| Ciclosporin | Orforglipron exposure rose 2.6-fold | Maximum Foundayo dose 9 mg a day |
| Ritonavir, telaprevir | Strong rise in orforglipron levels | Avoid the combination |
| Rifampicin, phenytoin, St John's wort | Orforglipron levels fall sharply | Avoid the combination |
| Carbamazepine | Orforglipron exposure fell by 82% | Listed as lowering Foundayo levels |
| Simvastatin | Simvastatin acid exposure rose up to 2.5-fold | Halve the simvastatin dose |
| Rosuvastatin | Rosuvastatin exposure rose 1.7-fold | Caution above 20 mg rosuvastatin |
| Insulin or a sulfonylurea | Higher risk of low blood sugar | Dose of these may be reduced |
Metformin and SGLT2 inhibitors can continue alongside Foundayo. In testing, the peak paracetamol level in the blood fell by 28% because the stomach empties more slowly. People with type 2 diabetes can read more in the GLP-1 and diabetes guide.
The contraceptive pill, pregnancy and breastfeeding #
The Foundayo leaflet gives direct guidance here. Oral hormonal contraceptives may work less well while your body adjusts to a new dose. For 30 days after you start Foundayo, and for 30 days after each dose increase, either add a barrier method such as condoms or switch to a non-oral method.
Do not take Foundayo during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. Stop the tablets at least 3 weeks before you start trying for a baby. Tell the clinical team straight away when you find out you are pregnant. The pregnancy and contraception guide covers all four medicines.
What to do about a missed tablet #
- Take the missed tablet when you remember.
- Check you have not already taken one today. The limit is one tablet per day.
- Carry on with your usual routine tomorrow.
- Never take two tablets together to catch up.
The UK label gives no instruction for restarting after several missed days in a row. Message the clinical team before you restart after a longer gap, because the prescriber may want you back on a lower strength first. The missed dose guide covers the injections and the Wegovy pill.
Storage and travel #
Keep the tablets in the original package to protect them from light, and out of the sight and reach of children. Leave each tablet in the blister until the moment you take one. Do not use tablets after the expiry date printed on the carton and blister, which means the last day of the month shown.
Foundayo needs no fridge and no cool bag, which makes travel simpler than with a pen. Pack the tablets in the original carton in your hand luggage. Across time zones, keep to one tablet per calendar day at whatever local time suits you. More tips are in the travelling with GLP-1 medicines guide.
Foundayo routine compared with the Wegovy pill routine #
Both medicines are one tablet a day. The daily rules differ a great deal, because the Wegovy pill contains semaglutide, which the stomach absorbs poorly unless conditions are right.
| Foundayo | Wegovy pill | |
|---|---|---|
| Time of day | Any time | After a fast of at least 8 hours |
| Food | With or without food | Empty stomach only |
| Water | No restriction | A sip of water, up to 120 ml |
| Wait before food, drink or other tablets | None | At least 30 minutes |
| Missed tablet | Take when remembered, one a day at most | Skip, take the next one tomorrow |
| Contraceptive pill | Extra method for 30 days after each increase | No clinically relevant effect found |
| Stop before planned pregnancy | At least 3 weeks | At least 2 months |
| Storage | Original package, away from light | Original blister, away from light and moisture |

How to take Foundayo tablets: questions #
Should I take Foundayo in the morning or at night?
Either. The UK product information allows any time of day, and the timing does not change how the tablet is absorbed. Pick a time you will remember every day. Some people prefer the evening or a mealtime while nausea is settling. Whatever you choose, take no more than one tablet in a day.
Can I take Foundayo with food or coffee?
Yes. Foundayo has no food or water restrictions, so you can take the tablet with a meal, with coffee or tea, or on an empty stomach. This differs from the Wegovy pill, which needs an 8-hour fast, a sip of water and a 30-minute wait before any food or drink.
What happens if I miss a Foundayo tablet?
Take the missed tablet when you remember, following your patient leaflet. Do not take more than one tablet in a day or double up to catch up. If you miss several days, ask your prescriber or pharmacist how to restart.
Does Foundayo affect the contraceptive pill?
The leaflet says oral hormonal contraceptives may be less effective. Use a barrier method such as condoms, or switch to a non-oral method, for 30 days after starting Foundayo and for 30 days after each dose increase. Non-oral methods such as a coil or implant are not covered by this warning.
Does Foundayo need to be kept in the fridge?
No. Foundayo tablets do not go in the fridge. The UK leaflet asks you to keep the tablets in the original package to protect them from light, out of reach of children, and to check the expiry date on the carton and blister. Return unused tablets to a pharmacy.
